I'm not very familiar with scripting in ClearSCADA but here are a couple of examples of how to do this with function blocks.įunction blocks are pretty straightforward when you get the hang of them.

If you need the hex value back in the PLC I would update a tag in the PLC with the hex value after it is generated and you can then store the rest of the data wherever it needs to go. You can read the ASCII value into ClearSCADA from the PLC (or from a scanner directly) and run a script when that value changes. The easiest way to do the ASCII to Hex conversion would be to build a lookup table or a couple of arrays and just convert things directly.

In googling, there isn't any code out there I can look at to see what they did to compare my process. I only studied a little programming in my CS studies but it was nothing like this stuff. The issue is that I have no idea on Modbus stuff and it closely resembles VBScripts which I also never worked with before. If it helps, it is for the Schneider Electric SCADA systems. I know I want to set up a variable, then do the methods described, but I don't know really how to proceed. What I seem to think would be a good step is to begin by reading in a string, then convert it to bytes with a loop, and then convert the bytes to hex with if statements. I still am trying to grasp function blocks and I don't think those are the solution to this anyway. What I am trying to do is make a ST program that reads in ASCII from a barcode and then turn it into a string, and finally into a hex number, which will be stored for historic records in a server. I am familiar with actual programming concepts, but still learning the PLC side.
